Sea World Australia – Trainer For A Day

On Tuesday March 21, 2017, I got to do my very first Trainer For A Day experience at Sea World on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. I was a little nervous at first but I calmed down when the day started….

The day started with a behind-the-scenes look at one of the shows and meet some of the stars of the show then it was off to Sandy Shores Lagoon to take part in our dolphin swim.

Myself and Huey, a 9 year old male inshore bottlenose dolphin

Then it was back to Seal Harbour where we got to meet some more of Sea World’s amazing seals – my favourite was a Californian Sea Lion named Elvis

We then got to go take a look at the polar bears – what magnificent animals they are! Hudson came over to take a look – Liya was in her night den having something to eat and came over to look at us as well – then it was off to go and have lunch at the end of that section. We met our trainer up near Penguin Point for a look at Dolphin Beach – and a surprise in the mix! We got to see a mother and calf – what a big surprise!

11 year old Jinx and her 3 month old male calf, Dusty. Jinx is a first time mother and has taken to first time motherhood like a pro – Dusty is a little bit of a bossy boots and a trouble maker at times (like all kids)

All in all, a very good day! I have a dream to become a marine mammal trainer and doing this has given my dream a big boost!

Another dream come true….

Yesterday was my birthday – a few kind friends posted over on my Facebook timeline and wished me happy birthday. One friend, however, took a birthday wish to another level and has surprised me with a Redballoon gift voucher for a hands-on flying lesson in a fixed wing aircraft at either Bathurst or Albury – I am going to do this at Bathurst as Bathurst is only a 2hr drive from Dubbo.

It will be another dream come true for me – I have always wanted to try my hand at a fixed wing aircraft. I have done a helicopter lesson but they are a little bit harder….. so excited to be given this opportunity by a friend I have never met! Stay tuned to this blog for a update

My Bucket List – thanks to Pascale!

My lovely friend and fellow blogger, Pascale (http://www.lessonsfrommydaughter.me/), has brought up an idea for sharing bucket lists – here is my bucket list in no particular order. Those that have been completed will be marked COMPLETED!

1. Swim with a dolphin – COMPLETED
This was completed in 2012 – and I have done it twice more since then!

Bella and me - hugging

2. Fly a helicopter – COMPLETED
Had a go at this when I was in Coffs Harbour in 2014 – damn, it’s so much harder to control than a car!

TIF in a Robinson R22 - it is harder than it looks!

3. Go for a ride as a pillion on a Harley – COMPLETED
Did this in Coffs Harbour this year – loved every minute of it!

First time sitting on a Harley - and this beaut FLHX Street Glide took me on my 30 minute tour

4. Go Hot Air Ballooning
Will get another chance in April 2016 to do this…. couldn’t do it this year as the weather was not kind to us!

5. Go for a joy flight in a helicopter – COMPLETED
I have done so many of these I kinda forgot what it’s like not to be in the air in one!

6. Hot lap in a V8 Supercar – COMPLETED
Refer to 2014 Sydney NRMA 500 – with thanks to Falken Tyres Australia for more on this item! Sitting in a A$400,000 machine with 600hp is rather exhilarating – let alone shooting down the track at 260km/h!

7. Aerobatic joy flight in a Pitts S2C Special aerobatic aircraft
A friend of a friend of mine is a aerobatic pilot who owns a S2C – I would love to do one of these with him!

That’s a condensed version – a more broader version to come!
